Enter this fun DIY hair accessories holder! It cost me a total of $0 and has held up very well so far. This could be a fun baby shower or little girl gift. Here's how you can make your own:
Materials
- Picture frame in a size of your choice. (I just used one that we had around the house already)
- Colored paper for the background (preferably something heavier, like card stock or scrapbook paper)
- Cardboard (can just be the cardboard that comes in the frame if you haven't discarded that already)
- Measuring tape (optional)
- Tape or glue
- Scissors
- Colored or patterned ribbon (I used 1/4" width but you could use wider ribbon. The sturdier the ribbon fabric, the better. I wouldn't use gift wrapping ribbon)
- Any other embellishments (the "j'taime" circle on my project is actually a circle-shaped card from a set I bought on clearance at Target a year ago)
Instructions
- Remove the glass from the picture frame (safely!) and set aside for some other use. Remove the backing from the frame and set aside.
- Cut the colored paper to the size of the picture frame (so that it will fit behind the frame, not fit through it), using the backing of your frame as a guide.
- If it is not sized already, cut the cardboard to the size of the colored paper.
- Tape or glue your paper to the cardboard. If you use glue, make sure to press out any bubbles so the paper is perfectly flat against the cardboard.
- Tape or glue any embellishments onto your paper, keeping in mind that you'll be placing ribbons vertically across the front. You can use name stickers, scrapbook embellishments, rhinestones, whatever!
- Use the measuring tape to figure out how long each ribbon should be (you'll be attaching the hair accessories to the ribbon). Each ribbon should wrap around the cardboard and be able to be secured behind the cardboard. If you don't have measuring tape, just use a piece of ribbon to determine the ideal length, and then use that ribbon as your guide for cutting the other ribbon pieces.
- Cut enough ribbon pieces to fit into your frame. You can do ribbon lengths across the whole front of your frame, or leave some empty space for headbands.
- Attach the ribbon pieces to the cardboard, taping or gluing each piece onto the back of the cardboard. Make sure you allow a little bit of slack on the front to allow clips to be easily attached.
- Carefully place the cardboard with ribbons into the glass-less frame. Replace the backing in the frame.
- Voila! Your project is ready for display and use!
