Spotlight on a Mompreneur

Spotlight on a Mompreneur

...or in this case, Spotlight on Mompreneurs! They say "it takes a village to raise a child" and the same is often true about running a business. Nature's Playhouse in Ferndale is an all-natural play and wellness center run by a village of women who teach and collaborate, led by the team of Sarah Doyle, Mikki Hill and Juliana Schewe. The three local moms banded together to purchase Nature's Playhouse from the previous owners, bringing with them a wide variety of experiences and expertise that shine in the programming they offer. Now they have moved Nature's Playhouse to a brand-new location! The new space at 703 Livernois in Ferndale allows Nature's Playhouse's mompreneurs to continue offering popular support groups and services alongside additional new offerings.

The Nature's Playhouse mamas are more than rockstar business owners. They also carry amazing certifications and trainings -- Sarah and Mikki are both licensed Master Social Workers, Juliana has masters degrees in Fine Arts and Art Education, and all three have completed extensive trainings and offered many classes in their areas of expertise. Want to know about belly dancing for pregnancy? Talk to Juliana. Want to know about infant massage or childproofing? Chat with Mikki. Need to feel supported and more aware of community resources? Sarah -- who also serves on the board of the South Oakland Shelter -- is your girl.

A spotlight is a good start, but to really know these mamas, pay them a visit at the new Nature's Playhouse location sometime soon! There you will find:

  • Birthing and Lactation Support
  • Prental, Postnatal and Family Fitness Classes
  • Massage, Reflexology and Reiki Services
  • Open Play Time and Family Enrichment Classes
  • In-Home Baby Proofing Assessments and Safety Workshops
  • Maternal and Infant Mental Health Services
  • Free Support Groups
