3. Fire Prevention Week
Talk about fire safety with your family during Fire Prevention Week to ensure our homes and children are prepared in the case of an emergency. The 2022 theme for Fire Prevention Week is "Fire won't wait. Plan your escape!" It's the perfect time to make sure your children know how to get out of the house and where to go in case of a fire. 4. Learn How Native Youth Bring Indigenous Voices to the Classroom
Learn how Native youth are incorporating Indigenous voices in K–12 education and promoting inclusive conversations in our nation's classrooms as part of the Smithsonian's Indigenous Peoples’ Day program. Panelists include three leading young voices in the Native conversation: Kourtney Kawano (Kanaka สปลiwi [Native Hawaiian]), Charitie Ropati (Native Village of Kongiganak, Alaska), and Amy Spotted Wolf (Tohono O’odham/Hidatsa). 5. Tune in for a FREE Jurassic Quest Virtual Play Session
Join Jurassic Quest’s dinosaur trainers and loveable baby dinosaurs for a day of FREE virtual family fun on National Fossil Day! These live virtual play sessions will happen throughout the dino holiday.
Each virtual session will include 30 minutes of live family-friendly fun at no cost, such as dino storytime, dino show and tell, adorable dino baby appearances, and more, led by the Jurassic Quest dinosaur trainer team: Safari Sarah, Dino Dustin, Prehistoric Nick, and Park Ranger Marty. Kids are encouraged to come in costume, bring along their favorite dinos, and can even snuggle in for baby dino bedtime stories to close out the holiday. FREE. Registration required. Oct. 12
